In late 2021 DIG commenced a multi-million dollar mining operations contract for Marampa Mines Limited (MML) in Sierra Leone. The Marampa iron ore mine is located in Lunsar, 125 kms by road north-east of the capital city, Freetown.
DIG were appointed the principal mining services contractor under our client MML over a period of 17 months.
The contract requires a 7.7 Mt Ore and Waste pit mining operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to produce high grade iron ore concentrate.
Ore material is transported to the ROM along a purpose built all weather haul road network for either direct feed or re-handle through the plants and waste material stockpiled in designated tip areas.
To achieve this DIG is deploying a fleet of 6 prime mover excavators, 4 bulldozers, 24 cArticulated Dump Trucks, a road maintenance team, a rehandle fleet and support equipment. DIG is also deploying 20 expatriate supervisors and managers, 7 of which are from other African nations.
We are also working with our Client to ensure that we deliver against Economic, Social and Governance targets for the project and exceed the requirements of the Local Content Act – we currently employ over 130 Sierra Leonean Nationals at Marampa under Labour Gazette and recognised wage agreement terms in a mixture of skilled, technical, administration, management and manual roles to ensure our clients’ targets are met; these employees are largely drawn from the 5000 previously trained over the last 10 years.
